Michael's Gate (Slovakia)

Weather…

Michael's Gate is the only preserved city gate of the medieval fortifications in Bratislava, standing as one of the oldest and most prominent landmarks in the Slovak capital. Originally constructed in the 14th century, its current Baroque appearance dates back to a reconstruction in 1758, when the characteristic onion-shaped roof and the copper statue of Archangel Michael were added. The tower rises to a height of 51 meters and currently houses the Museum of Arms, showcasing a collection of historical weapons and military equipment. From the upper gallery, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Old Town's rooftops and the Bratislava Castle. Historically, the gate served as the northern entrance to the fortified city and was an integral part of the coronation route used by Hungarian kings. Located directly beneath the gate's arch is the "Zero Kilometer" plaque, indicating the distance from Bratislava to 29 major world cities.
