The city is situated in one of the most fertile agricultural regions in Europe and is closely linked to farming, the food industry, and trade. An absolute tourist magnet is the expansive Thermalpark Dunajská Streda, which attracts visitors from all over the world with its highly mineralized, healing thermal waters welling up from great depths. Architecturally, the striking postmodern city hall stands out, designed by the renowned Hungarian architect Imre Makovecz, giving the city center an unmistakable appearance.
