Originally intended as a strategic base for heavy defense industry, it rapidly evolved into a center for high-tech aircraft manufacturing and shipbuilding. Today, Komsomolsk-on-Amur is internationally renowned for producing Sukhoi fighter jets and the Superjet 100 passenger aircraft. In addition to aerospace, the city hosts significant steel mills and oil refineries, making it a critical economic pillar for the Khabarovsk Krai.
