Kwidzyn, historically known as Marienwerder, is a significant city in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in northern Poland. Founded in 1233 by the Teutonic Order, the town served in the Middle Ages as the seat of the Bishopric of Pomesania. Its most impressive architectural feature is the monumental complex combining the Gothic cathedral with the adjacent castle of the cathedral chapter. A unique world-class landmark is the massive 'Gdanisko' (latrine tower), connected to the castle by a long elevated gallery supported by arches, which is among the largest structures of its kind in Europe. For centuries, Kwidzyn was a major administrative center and the seat of Prussian government districts. Today, the city is a modern industrial hub, particularly strong in the paper and electronics sectors, while carefully preserving its rich cultural heritage. Its location near the Vistula River adds significant scenic beauty to the surrounding area.
