Iława is an appealing town in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, known as the western gateway to the Masurian Lake District. The town is idyllically situated at the southern end of Lake Jeziorak, the longest lake in Poland, and is a paradise for sailors, kayakers, and water sports enthusiasts. Lake Jeziorak is known not only for its 27-kilometer length but also for its numerous bays and islands, including Poland's largest inland island, Wielka Żuława. This island is inhabited and gives tourist infrastructure. Iława is an important hub for water tourism and is connected to the famous Elbląg Canal, a unique 19th-century technical monument. In addition to water sports opportunities, Iława has a well-developed tourist infrastructure with numerous marinas, hotels, and restaurants. The lakeside promenade invites visitors for walks and relaxation. Although the town's historical buildings were severely damaged during World War II, some interesting structures have survived, such as the Gothic Church of the Transfiguration from the 14th century. The town is surrounded by forests belonging to the Iława Lake District Landscape Park, providing convenient conditions for hiking and cycling. Traveling to Iława is very easy thanks to its good railway connections, especially on the Warsaw-Gdańsk line. The best time to visit is summer, from June to August, when the weather is good for activities on and by the water, and the town hosts numerous cultural events and concerts.
