Ranighat Palace (Nepal)

Weather…

Ranighat Palace, often referred to as the Taj Mahal of Nepal, is situated on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River in the Palpa district. The palace was built in 1893 by General Khadga Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana as a memorial to his beloved late wife, Tej Kumari. The architecture of the palace is a striking blend of neoclassical European influences and traditional craftsmanship, perched on a massive rock at the river's edge. The complex consists of the main palace building, a temple, and several outhouses designed for pilgrims and guests. After Khadga Shamsher went into exile in India, the palace was abandoned for decades and fell into significant disrepair. Recent restoration efforts by the government have revived the structure, making it a symbol of eternal love and a popular destination for hikers. Accessing the site requires a scenic trek from Tansen, adding to its allure as an under-the-radar destination.
