Kapilvastu (Tilaurakot) (Nepal)

Weather…

Kapilvastu, today primarily known through the Tilaurakot archaeological site, is one of the world's most significant spiritual places. This is where Buddha spent the first 29 years of his life in princely luxury before setting out in search of enlightenment. Visitors can explore the archaeological remains of the ancient Shakya palace, including the impressive city wall ruins and the gates through which Siddhartha once passed. The atmosphere at the site is one of peace and reverence. The sprawling grounds are surrounded by tranquil nature and offer numerous spots for reflection and prayer. In addition to the palace ruins, there are ancient stupas and monasteries that provide a deep insight into the early history of Buddhism. A small local museum displays finds such as ancient coins and pottery. Access is usually via Lumbini, which is about 27 kilometers away. Local gastronomy in the Terai is simple but tasty, featuring dishes like Dal Bhat. The best time to visit is from October to March, when the temperatures are pleasantly cool. Kapilvastu is for anyone wishing to understand the origins of Buddhism and Nepal's history.
