Baglung serves as the administrative headquarters of Baglung District in Gandaki Province, western Nepal. The city is dramatically situated on a high plateau overlooking the confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Kathekhola rivers. Known nationwide as the 'City of Suspension Bridges,' Baglung features some of Nepal's longest and highest pedestrian bridges, spanning deep river gorges. Historically, Baglung was a vital stopover on the ancient trade route between Tibet and India. The city is home to the renowned Kalika Bhagwati Temple, a significant Hindu pilgrimage site located within a dense forest. Beyond its religious importance, Baglung acts as a starting point for treks into the Dhaulagiri massif and the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve. The local economy is driven by trade, agriculture, and an expanding tourism sector. Its cultural landscape is composed of various ethnic groups, including Magar, Brahmin, and Chhetri, who collectively define the town's social fabric.
