Ghorepani (Poon Hill)

Ghorepani is one of Nepal's most popular trekking destinations, primarily due to its proximity to Poon Hill (3,210m), one of the best vantage points in the country. Every morning, trekkers hike up to the hill before dawn to witness the sun painting the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna massifs in brilliant gold. The village itself sits at 2,874 meters and is surrounded by the world's largest rhododendron forests. In spring, the entire region transforms into a sea of red, pink, and white blossoms, making the trek a fairytale experience. Ghorepani gives a wide range of well-equipped lodges and teahouses, providing warmth and sustenance to weary hikers. The trails to Ghorepani often involve steep stone stairs through easy on the eye mountain villages inhabited by the Magar ethnic group. It is a vital part of the Annapurna Sanctuary and Circuit treks. The best months to visit are March and April for the blooms, and October and November for the most stable weather and clearest mountain views.
