Lumbini (Nepal)

Weather…

Lumbini, located in the Terai plains of Nepal, is one of the world's holiest sites as the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became the Buddha. According to historical tradition, the Buddha was born here in 563 BCE in the garden of Lumbini. The centerpiece of the site is the Maya Devi Temple, built exactly over the spot where the birth is believed to have taken place. A crucial archaeological monument is the Ashoka Pillar, erected by the Indian Emperor Ashoka in 249 BCE during his pilgrimage to confirm the site's authenticity. Today, Lumbini is a sprawling monastic zone where Buddhist communities from across the globe have constructed temples in their respective national architectural styles. The site is not only a destination for millions of pilgrims but also a symbol of world peace and spiritual quest. The tranquil atmosphere is enhanced by the sacred Puskarni pond and expansive gardens designed for meditation. Lumbini was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
