Ghorahi is a prominent sub-metropolitan city located in the Dang District of Lumbini Province in southwestern Nepal. It lies within the Dang Valley, which is recognized as the largest inner Terai valley in Asia, situated at an altitude of approximately 600 meters above sea level. The city serves as a vital commercial hub and administrative center for the Rapti basin area. Historically, the region has been closely associated with the culture of the Tharu people, who are considered the indigenous inhabitants of the valley. In recent decades, Ghorahi has rapidly evolved into an industrial center, particularly known for its cement production, supported by significant nearby limestone deposits. The Nepal Sanskrit University, the only one of its kind in the country, is located nearby, making the city an important educational destination. Ghorahi is well-connected to the rest of Nepal via the Mahendra Highway and serves as a strategic gateway to the hill districts of mid-western Nepal.
