🍽 Food
Try this traditional platter with beaten rice and spicy side dishes in the small eateries within the old Lubhu area.
These buffalo meat dumplings are available at almost every corner; look for busy stalls along the Imadol road.
Often called 'Newari pizza', this rice-flour crepe is best enjoyed at small family-run spots in the residential lanes.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
The Lubhu area is famous for traditional weaving; buy directly from the small workshops for authentic fabrics.
Along the road to Godawari, there are many plant nurseries selling exotic flowers and decorative pots.
In the less developed sections, the riverside has quiet paths for a peaceful stroll away from noise.
Visit the smaller Gumbas (monasteries) tucked away on the hillsides for quiet contemplation.

Mahalaxmi Municipality is located in the southeastern part of the Kathmandu Valley and belongs to the Lalitpur District. It was formed by the merger of several smaller villages and is one of the fastest-growing municipalities surrounding Kathmandu. Its landscape is a mix of rapidly expanding urban areas and remaining agricultural lands and small forests. The municipality benefits from its proximity to the city centers of Lalitpur (Patan) and Kathmandu, and is well-connected via the Ring Road. Development is rapid, with numerous new residential and commercial buildings. Mahalaxmi hosts several temples and shrines that are important to the local community. The challenge for the municipality is to manage the rapid growth while preserving environmental quality and the remaining green spaces.
