Patan Durbar Square (Nepal)

Weather…

Patan Durbar Square is located in the center of Lalitpur and is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Newari architecture in Nepal. The square once served as the residence of the Malla kings of Patan and is characterized by its high density of temples and exquisite artistic details. The most outstanding structure is the Krishna Mandir, a Shikhara-style temple built entirely of stone in 1637 and dedicated to Lord Krishna. Each level of the temple features detailed carvings depicting scenes from the Mahabharata and Ramayana epics. In addition to the sacred buildings, the square houses the Patan Museum, located in a former wing of the royal palace, which preserves a world-class collection of bronze statues and religious artifacts. The harmonious arrangement of pagoda roofs and the use of red brick lend the site a timeless atmosphere. Despite suffering damage in the 2015 earthquake, most monuments have been faithfully restored through international collaboration.
