Dharahara Tower (Nepal)

Weather…

Dharahara, also known as the Bhimsen Tower, is a prominent landmark in Kathmandu, originally constructed in 1832 by Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa. The white tower served as a military watchtower, offering a panoramic view across the entire valley. Throughout its history, the structure has been destroyed multiple times by earthquakes, most notably in 1934 and 2015. The collapse during the 2015 quake was a national tragedy, as hundreds of people were trapped in the debris. A modern reconstruction of the tower was inaugurated in 2021, mirroring the original's exterior aesthetics while incorporating modern technology such as an elevator inside. The new complex also includes a museum and memorials dedicated to the victims of the natural disaster. Dharahara remains a symbol of resilience and the reconstructive spirit of the Nepalese people. Its central location makes it an essential landmark for both residents and international tourists.
