Akchour
Akchour is an oasis of freshness in northern Morocco, located just a short drive from Chefchaouen. The valley is famous for its incredibly clear, turquoise waters that collect in natural rock pools, excellent for a refreshing dip. The main highlights are the Great Waterfall and 'God's Bridge' (Pont de Dieu), a natural stone arch towering 25 meters above the river. Hiking is the primary activity here. There are two main trails: one leads to the cascading waterfalls, while the other takes you to the wide-open natural bridge. The paths are lined with lush vegetation and small stalls offering freshly squeezed orange juice and hot tagines. The atmosphere is most magical on weekdays when it remains quiet and serene. Access is easiest via a 45-minute grand taxi ride from Chefchaouen through spectacular mountain scenery. Local accommodation is available in simple gîtes, and dining by the riverside is a must. The best time to visit is during spring or early summer when the waterfalls are at their most powerful and the landscape is animated green. Akchour provides a remarkable contrast to Morocco's arid southern regions. The combination of red cliffs and emerald water is a dream for nature photographers. It is a place where you can lose track of time and fully immerse yourself in the untouched wilderness of the Rif Mountains.
