Petnjica is the administrative seat of the municipality of the same name in northeastern Montenegro, set within the scenic Bihor geographical region. The town regained its status as an independent municipality in 2013, after being part of Berane for several decades. The landscape is characterized by pristine mountain terrain, providing favorable conditions for agriculture and livestock farming. Petnjica holds cultural importance as a major center for the Bosniak population in Montenegro and maintains strong ties with its extensive diaspora in Western Europe. A prominent architectural landmark is the 16th-century mosque, featuring a unique three-story wooden structure. The local economy is increasingly focused on wood processing and the development of rural tourism initiatives. The municipality is actively working on infrastructure modernization to curb emigration and foster sustainable regional growth.
