Cuciurgan Power Station (Moldova)

Weather…

The Cuciurgan Power Station, officially known as Moldavskaya GRES, is the largest thermal power plant in the region and a critical pillar of Moldova's energy infrastructure. Located in Dnestrovsc on the shores of the Cuciurgan reservoir, the facility began operations in 1964. With a massive installed capacity of 2,520 MW spread across twelve generating units, it is capable of running on natural gas, coal, or fuel oil. Its skyline is dominated by five towering chimneys, the tallest reaching a height of 335 meters, making it one of the tallest structures in the country. Geopolitically, the station is of immense importance as it provides the vast majority of electricity for the Moldovan power grid. The adjacent reservoir is essential for the plant's cooling systems and also serves as a significant body of water on the border with Ukraine. The plant remains a testament to mid-20th-century industrial engineering while continuing to dictate the economic and energetic pulse of the entire Dniester region.
