The 'Lower Dniester' (Nistrul de Jos) National Park was officially established in 2022 as the first national park in the Republic of Moldova. Spanning approximately 62,000 hectares across the Căușeni and Ștefan Vodă districts, it follows the lower reaches of the Dniester River. Since 2003, the area has been recognized as a Ramsar site of international importance, featuring valuable wetlands, floodplain forests, and oxbow lakes. The biodiversity is extraordinary, with over 1,000 plant species and hundreds of vertebrate species, including rare birds like the white-tailed eagle and the black stork. Geographically, the region is characterized by river meanders and fertile alluvial soils, which are also significant for regional viticulture.
