Meeru Island Beach (Maldives)

Weather…

Meeru Island Beach is located on Meerufenfushi Island at the easternmost tip of the North Malé Atoll. Spanning approximately 32 hectares (1200 meters in length and 350 meters in width), it is one of the largest resort islands in the Maldives. Geographically, the island is defined by its expansive, shallow lagoons shielded by a distant outer reef, resulting in exceptionally calm waters along the shoreline. Historically, the island was developed for tourism in the late 1970s and has since evolved into a significant economic driver for the atoll. The island features its own museum, which preserves Maldivian history and culture, displaying traditional fishing gear and antique household artifacts. The vegetation is characterized by coconut palm groves that have been cultivated for generations. Today, the beach serves as a prime example of large-scale island management, integrating modern infrastructure like desalination plants and solar power with the preservation of the natural coastline.

📋 Practical info

🧭
Getting there
Access to this extensive stretch of eastern beach requires traveling to the island resort, which is typically reached via a speedboat transfer from the main international airport. Once settled on the island, the beautiful coastline is easily accessible by foot from anywhere.
📅
Best season
The dry season, running from late autumn through early spring, gives the most reliable tropical sunshine, calm sea conditions, and excellent visibility. The wet season brings a higher chance of tropical rain showers and wind, though the temperatures remain consistently warm.
⛰️
Terrain & paths
The long coastline features flawlessly flat, exceptionally soft white coral sand that transitions very gently into the shallow, clear turquoise waters of the atoll. There are no significant inclines, making the entire length of the beach incredibly easy to stroll along.
🎒
What to bring
Bare feet or very light, casual sandals are perfectly suited for walking on the fine, soft sand and navigating the immediate relaxed resort areas. Essential personal items include high-quality reef-safe sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, swimwear, and a good sun hat.
🅿️
Parking
As a private island resort without any public automobiles or heavy road infrastructure, traditional vehicle parking facilities are entirely nonexistent and completely unnecessary. Guests simply walk freely from their nearby accommodations directly out onto the sandy beach.
⚠️
Safety
The beach environment is generally very safe, with gentle, predictable slopes into the water and typically no heavy surf under normal tropical weather conditions. Visitors should remain somewhat mindful of occasional sharp broken coral fragments in the shallow waters.
⏱️
Time needed
Visitors typically spend large portions of their entire holiday directly enjoying the beach, seamlessly alternating between sunbathing, swimming, and leisurely coastal walks. A single continuous stroll from one end of this specific long beach to the other takes about forty minutes.
