Kandooma Thila is one of the most spectacular underwater formations in South Male Atoll, renowned for its distinct teardrop shape. Spanning approximately 300 meters in length, this thila is situated in the middle of a channel, resulting in exceptionally strong currents that fuel the growth of lush soft corals and attract large pelagic species. The northern edge of the reef, frequently called 'Jack Corner,' serves as a hotspot for grey reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, and large schools of eagle rays. The walls of the thila are characterized by deep crevices and overhangs, densely carpeted in bustling yellow and orange soft corals. Given its challenging diving conditions and high ecological significance, the area is subject to conservation efforts aimed at protecting the fragile coral equilibrium.
