Ambatovy Nickel Mine (Madagascar)

Weather…

The Ambatovy Mine is one of the world's largest lateritic nickel and cobalt mining operations, located in eastern Madagascar near the town of Moramanga. With an investment exceeding 8 billion USD, it represents the largest foreign direct investment in the country's history. The integrated project consists of an open-pit mine, a 220-kilometer slurry pipeline, and a large-scale processing refinery located in Toamasina on the coast. Ambatovy has the capacity to produce up to 60,000 tonnes of refined nickel and 5,600 tonnes of cobalt annually, contributing significantly to Madagascar's GDP and export earnings. Mining operations employ advanced technologies to mitigate environmental impact in this biodiversity-rich region. The consortium has established extensive reforestation programs and wildlife corridors to protect local lemur populations. As a major industrial anchor, the project provides thousands of jobs and supports regional infrastructure development.
