Port of Toamasina Terminal (Madagascar)

Weather…

The Port of Toamasina is the largest and most significant seaport in Madagascar, serving as the primary gateway for the island nation's international trade. Located on the east coast along the Indian Ocean, it is managed by the Société du Port à gestion Autonome de Toamasina (SPAT). More than 90% of Madagascar's container traffic and a large portion of exports, such as vanilla, cloves, and nickel, are handled here. In recent years, the port has undergone extensive modernization and expansion with international investment, notably from Japan, to increase capacity for larger container vessels. Its strategic position protects ships from heavy swells through a natural coral reef and artificial breakwaters. Beyond its economic weight, the port is a major employer in the region and forms the logistical backbone for supplying the capital city, Antananarivo, via rail and road connections.
