Telpeschholz (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Telpeschholz nature reserve is situated on a high plateau in the municipality of Kehlen and is renowned for its unique heathland landscape. It is one of Luxembourg's oldest nature reserves, having been protected since 1971. The vegetation is characterized by semi-dry grasslands and extensive heather stands that thrive on the calcareous soils of the Kehlen plateau. Particularly noteworthy are the numerous juniper bushes, which lend the area an almost Mediterranean feel. In addition to its botanical diversity, Telpeschholz holds significant archaeological importance, as it contains the remains of Gallo-Roman burial mounds. A well-marked circular trail leads visitors through the open landscape, offering expansive views over the Luxembourgish Gutland. The area is kept open through targeted sheep grazing to prevent scrub encroachment and preserve the habitat for rare bird species like the woodlark.
