Erpeldange Castle
Erpeldange Castle, picturesquely located in the Sûre valley near Ettelbruck, is an elegant manor house whose history dates back to the 12th century. The original complex was a medieval moated castle. The current castle was built around 1630 by the noble families of Gondersdorf and von Houthem in the Renaissance style. The two prominent round corner towers are still reminiscent of the defensive character of the former castle. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times and was rebuilt on several occasions. In the 19th century, it lost its function as a noble residence and served, among other things, as a presbytery. In 1983, the Luxembourg state acquired the property and comprehensively restored it. Since 1987, Erpeldange Castle has served as the seat of the municipal administration of Erpeldange-sur-Sûre. This public use makes the historic building an accessible and bustling part of the local community and ensures its long-term survival.
