The Blees valley in northeastern Luxembourg is renowned for its wildly romantic river sections and high biological diversity. The Blees stream flows here through a deeply incised valley flanked by steep, often jagged slate cliffs. The combination of fast-flowing, cool water makes the stream a handy habitat for brown trout and the white-throated dipper. The valley is predominantly forested with native deciduous mixed woodlands that put on a remarkable display of color in autumn. Numerous small springs and seepage points on the slopes create moist microbiotopes for rare salamander species. For hikers, the Blees valley has a tranquil alternative to the region's more famous valleys, with paths often running directly alongside the water. The valley's geological structure stands as a testament to the power of water, which has carved its way through the hard rock of the Ardennes over millions of years.
