Berg Castle (Luxembourg)

Weather…

Berg Castle, majestically situated above the Alzette river in the municipality of Colmar-Berg, has been the main residence of the Grand Ducal family of Luxembourg since 1911. The current castle was built on the site of several previous structures, with a history stretching back to the Middle Ages. The design, by Munich architect Max Meckel and Luxembourgish architect Constant Gillardin, combines neo-Gothic and Renaissance elements into an imposing yet homely ensemble. Although it is the official residence of the head of state, Berg Castle is not just a place of representation but also the family's home. It has witnessed important historical moments, from births and baptisms to state visits. Surrounded by a vast park that merges into the natural landscape of the Gutland, the castle symbolizes the continuity and stability of the Luxembourg monarchy.
