Ventė Cape (Lithuania)

Weather…

Ventė Cape, known in Lithuanian as Ventės ragas, is a prominent peninsula jutting far into the Curonian Lagoon and is recognized as one of the most critical bird migration hubs in Europe. Capitalizing on this strategic location, one of the continent's first bird ringing stations was established here in 1929 and remains highly active today. Each autumn and spring, millions of birds pass through, turning the site into a true mecca for ornithologists and nature enthusiasts. The rugged coastal landscape is overlooked by a historic lighthouse built in 1863; its cast-iron stairs can be climbed to enjoy a magnificent view across to the Curonian Spit. Visitors have the opportunity to see the massive, net-like bird traps up close and observe the scientists at their fascinating work. Beyond the ornithological station, the cape features peaceful walking trails along the reed-fringed shores of the lagoon.
