Nemunas Delta Regional Park (Lithuania)

Weather…

The Nemunas Delta Regional Park, located in western Lithuania where the Nemunas River empties into the Curonian Lagoon, is a globally recognized wetland of immense ecological importance. The landscape is a dynamic labyrinth of numerous river branches, oxbow lakes, bogs, and expansive floodplains that are often submerged under meters of water during the spring snowmelt. Because of its exceptional biodiversity, the delta is designated as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. For ornithologists and birdwatchers, it is an absolute paradise. Positioned directly on the East Atlantic Flyway, hundreds of thousands of migratory birds use the delta as a crucial stopover site every year. Furthermore, the delta is Lithuania’s most important breeding ground for the globally threatened aquatic warbler and provides prime hunting territory for the majestic white-tailed eagle. The traditional fishing villages scattered throughout the region, where life is intimately tied to the rhythms of the water, add a rich cultural dimension to the park.
