ORLEN Lietuva, formerly known as Mažeikių Nafta, is the only oil refinery in the Baltic States and a strategic cornerstone of the Lithuanian economy. Located near the town of Mažeikiai in the northwest, the refinery began operations in the late 1970s. Currently owned by the Polish PKN Orlen group, it processes crude oil primarily delivered via the Būtingė marine terminal. The facility supplies fuels and petrochemical products to Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and parts of Poland. Over the last decade, billions have been invested to increase the depth of oil processing and to comply with stringent EU environmental standards.
