Ezere Manor (Latvia)

Weather…

Ezere Manor, originally established in 1750, reached its current architectural form between 1845 and 1854 when it was rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style for Baron von Grotthuss. The manor gained global historical significance on May 8, 1945, as the site where the surrender of the German Army Group Courland was signed, effectively ending World War II hostilities in the Courland Pocket. Positioned near the Vadakste River, the manor's robust structure and ornate details make it a prominent landmark in the region. The estate includes a expansive 5-hectare landscape park featuring rare dendrological specimens. In the post-war era, the building transitioned into a local school, but today it primarily serves as a museum and cultural center dedicated to its unique military and noble heritage. The interior still preserves some historical features, while the exterior remains a striking example of mid-19th-century romanticism.
