Klaipėda Seaport (Lithuania)

Weather…

Klaipėda Seaport is Lithuania's only sea gateway and one of the few ice-free ports in the northernmost part of the Baltic Sea. It serves as a vital economic engine for the country and a primary transit hub for trade between the European Union and Eastern markets. The port features a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal with the FSRU vessel 'Independence,' which guarantees Lithuania's energy independence from Russian gas. Its infrastructure includes specialized terminals for containers, Ro-Ro ships, fertilizers, and petroleum products. Klaipėda is renowned for its depth of up to 15.5 meters, allowing it to accommodate the largest vessels capable of entering the Baltic Sea (Baltmax class). The port is tightly integrated with the rail network, notably through the 'Viking' shuttle train connecting the Baltic and Black Seas. Over recent decades, billions have been invested in port expansion, raising its annual cargo capacity to over 40 million tons.
