The Pajūris Lowland is a narrow yet scenically striking coastal strip that forms Lithuania's western border along the Baltic Sea. This distinct lowland area is the direct result of post-glacial sea-level fluctuations and the continuous geological shaping power of wind and coastal waves. The region is famously characterized by its expansive fine-sand beaches, shifting sand dunes, and dense pine forests that have been bent and shaped by the constant maritime winds. Inward from the immediate coast, the terrain frequently transitions into vast wetlands and peat bogs of immense ecological value. A significant portion of this lowland encompasses the eastern shores of the Curonian Lagoon, separated from the open sea by the Curonian Spit. Influenced by a maritime climate with milder winters and cooler summers, it stands as Lithuania's premier destination for summer and nature tourism.
