Hill of Witches (Lithuania)

Weather…

The Hill of Witches is a unique open-air sculpture park tucked away in the dense pine forests near the village of Juodkrantė on the Curonian Spit. Established in 1979 by local woodcarvers, it now houses over 80 masterfully crafted wooden figures created by Lithuanian artisans from massive oak trunks. The sculptures depict a variety of characters from rich Lithuanian mythology and folklore, including cunning devils, powerful witches, dragons, and heroes from ancient folk tales. The winding path through the forest provides visitors with a fairy-tale experience that exudes a mystical atmosphere, especially in the dappled shade of the tall trees. The park is expanded and restored annually, as the harsh maritime climate takes its toll on the wooden carvings. During the summer solstice, traditional celebrations are held here, reviving ancient pagan customs and rituals.
