Al-Hashimiyah is a modern industrial city in the Zarqa Governorate, located northeast of Amman. The city's growth is inextricably linked to Jordan's industrial transformation during the latter half of the 20th century. It is home to the Jordan Petroleum Refinery, the nation's only oil refinery, as well as major power plants that form the backbone of Jordan's energy sector. Beyond its industrial significance, the city is a major academic hub, hosting the main campus of the Hashemite University, one of Jordan's leading higher education institutions. The town has seen rapid population growth as workers and students from across the country have settled there. Geographically, it sits in a transition zone between the fertile highlands and the eastern desert plains. Despite its industrial focus, ongoing efforts are being made to enhance urban living through the development of parks and improved public infrastructure.
