Arch of Hadrian (Jordan)

Weather…

The Arch of Hadrian in Jerash is a monumental triumphal arch built between 129 and 130 AD to commemorate the visit of the Roman Emperor Hadrian to the city. Standing at the southern entrance of the ancient site, the arch was originally intended to serve as a grand new gateway for a planned city expansion that was never completed. The structure reaches a total height of approximately 21 meters, with the central arch spanning 11 meters, demonstrating the scale and ambition of Roman architecture. It features three arched bays and is adorned with intricate Corinthian capitals and unique acanthus leaf carvings at the bases of the columns. Following extensive restoration in the early 21st century, the arch has been returned to much of its former glory, greeting visitors to the archaeological park. It stands as one of the most significant monuments dedicated to Emperor Hadrian in the entire Roman Empire.
