Sauze d'Oulx is perched at 1,509 meters on a natural terrace overlooking the Val Susa. Known as the 'Balcony of the Alps', it is one of the sunniest resorts in the region. It is a key gateway to the 'Vialattea' (Milky Way) ski domain, which features 400 km of interconnected runs spanning from Italy to Montgenèvre in France. The resort achieved international prominence as the host for freestyle skiing during the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics. Its slopes are characterized by wide runs through larch forests, providing excellent skiing even on windy or snowy days. Beyond the slopes, Sauze is famous for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and some of the best après-ski life in the Italian Alps. In summer, the Fraiteve mountain gives challenging trails for hikers and mountain bikers. Conveniently located just an hour from Turin, it is easily reached by train to Oulx station or via the nearby A32 motorway. The old village center retains its rustic charm with cobblestone streets and stone fountains. Best visited in mid-winter for skiing and July for high-altitude trekking.
