Aquincum Museum (Hungary)

Weather…

The Aquincum Museum is located in the Óbuda district of Budapest and preserves the remains of the former capital of the Roman province of Pannonia. Founded in the late 1st century AD, the settlement served as a vital stronghold along the Danubian Limes, the Roman Empire's northern border defense system. The open-air archaeological park features the ruins of the civilian town, including marketplaces, public baths, sanctuaries, and private dwellings equipped with floor heating. The museum's most prized exhibit is the Aquincum water organ, dating from 228 AD, which is considered a unique archaeological find worldwide. The site also includes a lapidarium and modern exhibition halls showcasing Roman mosaics, wall paintings, jewelry, and everyday tools. During its peak in the 2nd and 3rd centuries, Aquincum was a bustling commercial and military hub with an estimated population of 30,000 to 40,000 people.
