Hungarian State Opera (Hungary)

Weather…

The Hungarian State Opera House, located on Andrássy Avenue in Budapest, is widely regarded as one of the finest masterpieces of Neo-Renaissance architecture in Europe. Designed by the renowned architect Miklós Ybl, it opened its doors in 1884 in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I. The facade is adorned with statues of famous composers such as Ferenc Erkel and Franz Liszt, while the interior features opulent gilding, marble columns, and magnificent frescoes. The auditorium ceiling is decorated with a monumental fresco by Károly Lotz depicting the gods of Olympus. With a capacity of approximately 1,300 seats, the opera house is celebrated for its world-class acoustics, often ranked among the top three globally. Between 2017 and 2022, the building underwent an extensive renovation to integrate modern stage technology while meticulously preserving its 19th-century grandeur.
