The Rodopi Mountain Range National Park is located in northern Greece along the border with Bulgaria and encompasses one of the wildest and most pristine forest areas in Southeastern Europe. Officially established in 2009, it spans the regions of Drama and Xanthi. A highlight of the park is the Virgin Forest of Fraktos, which is under strict protection and is considered one of the most significant primary forests on the continent. The flora is exceptionally diverse, including rare orchids and monumental forests of beech and spruce. In terms of fauna, the park provides a habitat for Greece's largest land mammals, including brown bears, wolves, and the rare golden jackal.
