- Boat schedules across the Muni River estuary are often informal; ask locals at the port early in the morning for departures.
- The coastal humidity is high; bring mosquito repellent and drink plenty of bottled water.
🍽 Food
Try freshly grilled fish sourced straight from the Muni River, often served with a spicy pepper sauce.
The staple side dish of the region, usually served boiled or as a dense, starchy paste to soak up sauces.
A sweet and savory accompaniment widely available at small street-side eateries near the water.

A lively spot where traders from both Gabon and Equatorial Guinea exchange goods; great for finding local fruits and spices.
Look for small wood carvings or woven items sold by informal vendors near the ferry terminal.

Cocobeach is a historically significant coastal town in northwestern Gabon, located in the Estuaire province at the mouth of the Muni River. The town sits directly across from Equatorial Guinea and functions as an important border post and fishing port. Cocobeach became famous primarily for the Battle of Cocobeach in September 1914 during World War I, when French troops recaptured the town from the German colonial power. Geographically, the region is defined by mangrove forests, fine sandy beaches, and the wide estuary of Corisco Bay. The local economy relies on cross-border trade, artisanal fishing, and the transport of goods by ferry. Despite its remote location, the town retains a colonial charm with remains of old administrative buildings. Cocobeach serves as the administrative center for the Noya department and is a melting pot of various ethnic groups, including the Benga and Fang. The maritime atmosphere and proximity to the Corisco Islands make the town a strategic point for regional development.
