Uupunturi is a gentle elevation in eastern Central Lapland, located in the Pelkosenniemi municipality. It is part of a series of fells significant for reindeer husbandry and the region's vast mire landscapes. The scenery of Uupunturi is defined by boreal coniferous forests that transition into open heathlands near the summit. Geologically, the fell is composed of quartzites, which were more resistant to erosion than the surrounding rocks, remaining as a residual landform. The name 'Uupunturi' implies exhaustion in Finnish, likely alluding to the arduous climbs faced by early travelers or reindeer herders. Today, the area is primarily known by locals for berry picking and hunting. From the higher elevations, one can enjoy unobstructed views of the nearby Pyhä-Luosto massif and the extensive Aapa mires characteristic of the region.
