Mantenga Cultural Village (Eswatini)

Weather…

The Mantenga Cultural Village is a living open-air museum in the Ezulwini Valley that faithfully represents the traditional Swazi way of life in the 19th century. The village was officially opened in 1998 and consists of 16 traditional beehive huts (Lidladla) built from natural materials such as grass, reed, and leather thongs. The arrangement of the huts follows a strict hierarchical structure reflecting social status within a polygamous family community. Visitors gain insight into historical customs, the role of the Sangoma (traditional healer), and food preservation techniques. A daily highlight is the performance of Sibhaca dances, accompanied by powerful singing and drumming. Adjacent to the village is the Mantenga Waterfall, one of the country's most voluminous falls, plunging into a photogenic gorge. The village serves not only to promote tourism but is an important educational center for the younger generation of Swazi to preserve their cultural heritage. It is part of a protected nature reserve that also integrates local flora and fauna.
