The Treehouse (Ecuador)

Weather…

La Casa del Árbol in Baños de Agua Santa is globally recognized for the 'Swing at the End of the World,' which hangs from a rustic wooden treehouse perched on a ridge. Originally, this site served as a seismic monitoring station established to track the activity of the nearby and highly active Tungurahua volcano. Carlos Sánchez, a local volunteer, built the structure in 1999 at an altitude of approximately 2,600 meters above sea level to provide early warnings for potential eruptions. The simple rope swing, initially intended for recreation between monitoring shifts, gained international fame through social media for its dramatic views over a steep canyon. Visitors can swing out into the air with the massive volcanic cone as a backdrop, creating a unique blend of adrenaline and natural beauty. Despite its transition into a major tourist destination, the site remains an active observation post for geologists. The combination of its scientific importance and its iconic status as a photography hotspot makes it one of Ecuador's most unique landmarks.
