Goda Mountains (Djibouti)

Weather…

The Goda Mountains are a significant highland region in northwestern Djibouti, situated northwest of the Gulf of Tadjoura. Reaching elevations of over 1,750 meters, they represent one of the few areas in the country with a relatively temperate climate and higher rainfall. This mountain range is home to the Day Forest National Park, which contains the last remaining significant stand of East African Juniper in the country. Geologically, the mountains are composed of volcanic basalt and rhyolite, formed millions of years ago during the rifting of the Afar Triangle. The region is culturally significant for the Afar people, who have traditionally used the mountains for grazing and as a refuge during the hottest months. Despite the arid surroundings of the lowlands, the Goda Mountains support a unique ecosystem with several endemic plant and bird species, such as the Djibouti francolin.

What to bring
Sturdy hiking boots, sun protection, and plenty of drinking water are essential for exploring the massif. Lightweight, breathable clothing combined with warmer layers for the cooler evenings is advisable.
