Adailou is a rural settlement in the Tadjoura Region of northern Djibouti. It is set within the Goda Mountains, one of the country's few mountainous regions, at an altitude of over 1,200 meters. This considerable elevation provides Adailou with a significantly cooler and more humid climate than the rest of the country, which allows for limited agricultural activities. The region is known for its gardens where fruits, vegetables, and even date palms are cultivated, providing an important source of food and income for the local population. The population is mainly composed of the Afar people, who practice a more sedentary lifestyle here compared to their nomadic relatives in the plains. Adailou serves as a local center for the surrounding small hamlets. The architecture is characterized by traditional stone houses adapted to the mountainous environment. The settlement is accessible via a winding mountain road that connects it to the regional capital, Tadjoura. The area around Adailou is also known for its rich biodiversity, including endemic plant species protected within the nearby Day Forest National Park.
