Port of Matadi (Congo - Kinshasa)

Weather…

The Port of Matadi is the primary maritime gateway of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, handling the vast majority of the nation's international trade. Located approximately 150 kilometers upstream from the Atlantic mouth of the Congo River, the port is situated within a deep canyon that accommodates large ocean-going vessels. Since the river becomes impassable above Matadi due to the Livingstone Falls, the port serves as the critical transshipment point where maritime routes end and the land corridor to Kinshasa begins. The facility features ten berths and modern equipment for handling containers, bulk cargo, and hydrocarbons. It is linked to the capital by the historic Matadi-Kinshasa Railway and a major national highway. Millions of tons of cargo, including foodstuffs, machinery, and mineral exports, pass through its terminals annually. While managed by the state-owned SCTP, private operators like DP World are increasingly involved in expanding its operational capacity.
