The Zongo II Hydroelectric Plant is located on the Inkisi River in the Kongo Central province, near the well-known Zongo Falls. It was designed as an expansion of the existing power infrastructure to alleviate chronic electricity shortages in the capital city of Kinshasa and the surrounding regions. Built with financial and technical assistance from China through the Sinohydro corporation, the plant was officially inaugurated in 2018. The project involved the construction of a 200-meter-long dam and a complex system of tunnels for water diversion.
