Port of Banana (Congo - Kinshasa)

Weather…

The Port of Banana is located on the Democratic Republic of the Congo's narrow Atlantic coastline in the Kongo Central province, situated precisely at the mouth of the Congo River. It is the country's only port with direct access to the open ocean, bypassng the need for upstream river navigation. Historically a modest trading post and naval base, Banana's strategic importance has surged recently due to a massive infrastructure initiative. The Congolese government, in partnership with DP World, has commenced the construction of the nation's first true deep-water port here. This expansion is designed to accommodate the world's largest container vessels, which are currently unable to reach the Port of Matadi due to the river's depth limitations. The project aims to reduce national reliance on foreign ports and lower import costs. Additionally, the surrounding Moanda territory is a hub for the country's offshore oil production, with Banana serving as a key terminal for crude oil exports.
