Inga Dam (Congo - Kinshasa)

Weather…

The Inga Dams on the Congo River represent one of the world's most significant hydroelectric complexes, located in the Kongo Central province. The complex harnesses the immense power of the Inga Falls, where the river drops approximately 96 meters over a short distance. The facility currently consists of two operating power stations: Inga I, completed in 1972, and Inga II, which went online in 1982. Together, they form the backbone of the energy supply for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and serve the mining regions in Katanga via one of the world's longest high-voltage direct current transmission lines. The potential for further expansion, known as the Grand Inga project, is estimated at up to 40,000 megawatts, which would make it the largest hydroelectric project on Earth. The Inga Dams are not only massive technical achievements but also symbols of the country's vast natural potential for promoting sustainable development across Africa.
