Crystal Mountains (Congo - Kinshasa)

Weather…

The Crystal Mountains (Monts de Cristal) are a mountain range extending along the border of Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, and reaching into the west of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are part of the Lower Guinea Rise and are known for their rugged topography and extremely high rainfall, which results in exceptionally rich biodiversity. The mountains reach altitudes of up to 1,000 meters and are covered by dense, often misty rainforests. Geologically, they are primarily composed of Precambrian rocks. The region is a biodiversity hotspot, particularly for plants, insects, and amphibians, with many endemic species. The Gabonese part of the mountains is protected as the Monts de Cristal National Park. Although the Congolese foothills are less known, they share many of the same ecological characteristics. The region is sparsely populated, and the main threats to the ecosystem are commercial logging and poaching.
